MANUEL "MASTER" SERVIN - GODOY MACHINES

Master... using the Godoy Machines - V3 Model

Manuel Isaias Aceves Servin - known officially as: xmasterx, was born in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico May 27, 1983. Since he was a kid, he'd always shown great aptitude in drawing... as an adolescent, this art went hand in hand with his playing in a hardcore band and being exposed to heavily tattooed people and the inspiration to learn technique and involve himself in the art.

Through friends, Master met Richi Michel, who at 11 years of tattooing had gained international recognition for his world class tattooing ability. Master bought his first machine right then and there and took a self taught approach for the following 6 months before having job offers and an official apprenticeship from Richi Michel.

In the Richi Tattoo studio he was exposed to the work of Javier Kuatom & Martin Zapo, whose influence helped to direct and to shape Master's career and ability. After 4 years, he operates Blackline Tattoo and travels to national and international conventions entering contests and winning.

REALISM... A TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF TECHNIQUE...

A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF COLOR, BALANCE AND COMPOSITION...

DYNAMIC LINE THICKNESS, COMBINED WITH SMOOTH EVEN GREYS...

COMBINED WITH CONTRASTING DARKS... MAKE FOR PERFECT TATTOOS.

We proudly sponsored Master for machines at The Guadalajara tattoo convention where he tied for first place for tattoo of the day. He followed up this win with a few more first places in Mexico City 2 months later! This is a track record that can't be beat...

Hawaii update

So my trip started off pretty slow, it was practically dead after that one busy Sunday I had when I first got to town. Dead for almost two weeks. All comes with this profession...feast or famine. Especially in this town.

Anyway, these photos aren't exactly in order so I'm gonna wing it.

This little sunflower was a walkin from last night. Her first tattoo, with her kids' names and a bible verse.
This rose was done on a friend of a friend, let me do any kind of rose I wanted, and I wanted do something fun with color. The cover up underneath was done by someone else. This was alot of fun to do and got to experiment a bit.

Another first tattoo on a mother who wanted her daughter's name in Hawaiian.
Another stab at some polynesian! He was a surfer from Australia with some scarring on his arm. Haven't worked with scars too much as of yet so this was good practice for me. Had some fun with the design, he let me do my thing for the most part.

This was a fun day! Not much was going on and one of our regulars came in for some pain!!! He wanted these anchors on the soles of his feet! He's been tattooed a bunch already and knew that these would not last. So I got my friend Stolfi in on the fun, we tagged teamed tattooed him! Was my first bottom of the foot as well!

 OUCH!
Lettering on inner bicep....another first tattoo for a young father.
Keone came in last week to get his owl all finished. Really stoked to get this one under my belt, and because of this one, I have now two more owls to work on before I leave town! Want to play around with textures with the next one. I'm happy with how he healed and the overall layout. Can't wait to do more big pieces like this!
Canadian dude in town for a few days... wanted this in stone on his back.
One of the very first hip tattoos... cute little shell on another first-timer.

Until next time....

HELP WANTED!

Seppuku Tattoo is hiring!

At the end of this year, we say goodbye to Matt's apprentice, Jamison Eckert. This leaves us with an open chair.

The Short Bit:
We're looking for a full time artist with a MINIMUM of 3-5 years of experience, versed in a variety of styles, who can do anything from walk ins to extensive custom work. Full blood borne pathogen training & Red Cross certified. Sharp portfolio. Professional ethics. No rock stars, primadonnas, racists, scratchers, or drug users. Please contact either Matt or Johnny at the studio or via email. 973-291-8187, johnny@seppukutattoo.com, or dethrone@seppukutattoo.com.

The Long Bit:
"A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
Matt & I have been in business together for going into eight years now, & little has come in the way of our partnership. We are looking for an additional powerful artist to be that third, and maybe a fourth artist as a floater, a part time artist to work in the booths when they're vacant so we can start working a normal schedule, as opposed to the sixty to eighty hours a week we're working now. Preferably, we'd like an artist who we not only can be proud to offer to our clientele, but is strong & creative enough so that we can create an environ where we all learn from each other & push each other to greater heights.

We have a very open laid back atmosphere where we work hard to let the small shit not matter, & to concentrate our strengths on our art & on our clientele. We are clean & (mostly) sober. We are art school educated & have vast experience in many other mediums. We are very open about assisting each other. We share 'secrets', techniques, styles, supplies, & clients. We are cool about recommending customers to the other when the other is stronger in a particular area. We have absolute trust & never have the kinds of worries you might find in other studios; we never have to worry about anything being stolen, anyone having a key to the studio, or any concerns about the register. Like many artists of our caliber, we like to travel & do guest spots, & we do not want to ever have to worry about leaving the studio in someone's hands. Everyone in the shop helps each other out, answers the phones, takes appointments for each other, schmoozes the clients, cleans, mops, & treats everyone under our roof with respect. We worked very hard to build a great studio, we expect it to be treated as if it was your own.

Matt & I are both very diverse. Although we do like very tattoo artist types of things, like horror or motorcycles, we are also consumed with academics as well. Matt has a full education in both English & Fine Arts, & I read & think way too much. We work in a number of mediums, live for all varieties of art, & never want to be limited to a tattoo stereotype. We paint & consider the masters to be our main influences. We listen to a broad range of music, from jazz to death metal.

Seppuku Tattoo does not suck. We have taken a number of awards, have been published in a number of magazines & books, have been invited to the better conventions, & guested at great studios. A perfect candidate will either be working at this level of excellence or show real potential to get there.

Matt & I both have done formal apprenticeships on top of our art educations & former art careers. We've sacrificed much in paying our dues & earning our place. We have a tremendous amount of respect for the industry & do not engage in trash talk. We have an open door policy & invite other artists to hang out or create art. We didn't name the studio 'Seppuku' for nothing, we did it because the foundational principles of samurai culture are loyalty, honor, & respect.

I shouldn't have to say what we are NOT looking for. If you are looking for drama, please think of auditioning at a community theatre. If you're currently nursing a serious substance abuse problem, forget it. If you are currently working out of your kitchen, just stop. Problems with hygiene, attitude, tardiness, or unprofessionalism, come on now.

I'm going into length about our viewpoint because a good working relationship is going to rely on being able to mesh personalities as well as skill & talent. Our studio is small but very high quality. We're in an area that's high traffic enough for business, in a mountain town on a river. We're close enough to the city to get in & out for art shows, but not be overwhelmed by traffic & general insanity. We are not looking for someone who just needs a job, we're looking for someone who really wants to create something great. If this sounds like the kind of place you would like to call home, please contact either Matt of myself immediately. Thanks!

TRYING TO BRING SCRAPPY TO FUNHOUSE!

JUAN IS NO LONGER AT THE SHOP... THIS IS THE LATEST.

Mexican / global tattooist Juan "Super" Arreguin is one of our crew, no matter where he is. He has left to open his own shop in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico. We're all proud of his achievents and contributions and are grateful for the time he spent with us.

He is recognized for his artistic and loyal contribution to the progression of the art wherever he may tattoo, and now, right here, with his own model machines by Godoy Machines. Pictured above are a pair of his "Fly" and "Super Fly" model machines.

The Juan Arreguin "Fly" Model. A pair of 6 layer high saturation coils. Unequaled in incremental sensitivity, no other round coil assembly can compare. The magnetic field generated by specific wire layers and gauges are sequentially integrated in this coil assembly to combine with distinct spring gauges and tensions plus armature bar mass and weight to produce the highest variety of incrementally sensitive variations in force. A true masterpiece.

The Juan Arreguin - "Super Fly" model. A steel frame with our patented square coil assembly. Our patented square electromagnetic coil assembly boosts magnetic field mils by invoking an exact combination of material and a specially designed coil core mass. Spring material, gauges and tension combined with frame specifications to dictate fluid movement, variable velocity and incrementally sensitive force There are several special NEW and innovative features on this machine, NOT found on any other machine in the industry which enable maximum sensitivity at lower voltage. From a light and sensitive feel to punchy and more forceful, all under 4V.

Juan's work is easily identifiable and un mistakable. All the elements of light, shade and contrast can be seen. As well as fine lines...

The SUPER FLY MACHINE is able to subtly blend and fade as well as solidly line and evenly color with just a slight turn of the potentiometer.

This is proof that good work does not just happen by chance or luck or just on the artist's ability. A well tuned professional machine, built by professionals that understand these techniques (because they apply them themselves on a daily basis, just like you do) , can make any artistic goals a stress free reality.

Back in Paradise

This walked into the shop the other day... his first tattoo. He wanted something for his wife and he brought in an image and this is what we came up with. He sat well for it and it was a good end to a very busy day here in Waikiki.
Some letters and a date on the chest for him and his new wife...

The day before I left town my client stopped in to start another design, this time with tribal and stone. When I get home we can get this done.
Another small walkin before I left town.

This was a fun one. She came into the shop at NKO before I left town and wanted a shield with symbols in it representing important things in her life. This is what we came up with.

I TOLD you we would do T SHIRTS!

Yes, I completed all the art back in March. And then we were slammed for the duration of the summer. We get a bit of a breather as the holidays jump on everyone, & I finished the files & shot them out to the printers. We have two designs,... the kamikaze grrl committing seppuku is a six color print on the back, with the Seppuku cartuche on the front. We have them in heavyweight cotton t shirts, & also a limited number of Dickies work shirts, in M-L-XL-XXL. $20 & $40 respectively.

We also have shirts for the ladies, a three color print on the front, on American Apparel baby dolls. We have S-M-L-XL, at $20.

We also have art prints. Johnny ran six prints of the paintings he's done this year: The Pirate Queen (painting done for the cover of Skin & Ink magazine), Steamed Punk Grrl, Zombiegina, Beautiful Music, Infinite Geisha, and Death's Bed. These prints are 13" x 19", some on white, some on off white water color paper, $20.

Matt has a run of art prints based on the skull studies he's done this year. Also, a number of original oil paintings. https://www.facebook.com/?sk=lf#!/media/set/?set=a.179688725399409.39027.100000748482809&type=1

I will update this entry later today. For now, you can stop by the shop & see the art for yourself, or contact us via our website. Thanks for everyone's support!
